Music of Struggle
In July and August of 2007, some of the musicians of Needle in the Groove and the Palestinian girls of Flowers Against the Occupation met face to face and created a week-long cultural exchange and music camp with the theme “Music of Struggle.” They shared songs that have given them the strength and inspiration to work for justice, and they taught each other songs in Arabic and English. The musicians gave the girls lessons on drums, guitar, and keyboard, and helped them write original songs throughout the week. In July 2008, Flowers Against the Occupation will run another camp. This time the camp will be two weeks instead of one, will include 100 girls, and will consist of music, folk dance, art, sculpture, and more. The teachers and trainers will be Palestinian women, some from Flowers Against the Occupation who have taken training for trainers, and some professionals. To make all this happen, they need your help!If you are able to make a donation to Flowers Against the Occupation, now is the time! To donate, please e-mail hannah@needleinthegroove.org.
